Adoption Process

Interested in adopting one of Diamond's Friends? Here's what you need to know!

1. All Adopters Must Complete an Application

We require all prospective adopters to complete an adoption application (accessible here). We do allow applicants to request specific animals, but our adoption applications help us make sure we are matching you with the best animal for your home.

Please note that most of our dogs have restrictions in terms of the adoption distance we will consider for them. We are a Newport Beach-based organization that is 100% volunteer-run, and our founder works a full-time job in addition to running the rescue/handling all adoptions (including transporting dogs to meet and greets/doing home checks). As you can imagine, it's a lot to juggle! Consequently, we prioritize adopting out our dogs in Orange County to ensure we can provide adequate support to facilitate the long-term success of our adoptions. We also like to keep our dogs close in case an adoption doesn't work out so that we can take them back into our care quickly if needed.

2. Adoption Fees

We do charge adoption fees. All our animals come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped (unless it is not medically safe for them to receive that type of care). They have received preventative medication for fleas, ticks, and heartworms. Some of our animals have been transported in from other cities or states. Others have had lab work done or other medical needs taken care of. All of this costs us money, and our adoption fees help us recover some of the costs we incur helping these animals so that we can help others in need.

Our adoption fees vary based on the animal's age and medical needs we've treated him/her for.

NOTE: If our veterinarian deems it not in an animal's best interest to spay/neuter them prior to their adoption, we require our adopters to sign a legally binding spay/neuter agreement in order to adopt. If you are not willing to abide by this agreement, we will not adopt allow you to adopt the dog. This agreement will include a spay/neuter deposit that is fully refundable once the dog is spayed/neutered.

3. Meet and Greet

Once your application is approved, a member of our team will reach out to schedule a meet and greet as well as a home check.

4. Finalize Adoption

If the meet and greet and home check goes well and you'd like to move forward with adopting, you will pay the adoption fee and sign an adoption contract as well as the spay/neuter agreement if required.
